Celebrating the Holidays, Push10 Style

If you were to survey 100 people, chances are the majority of them would have at least one holiday tradition.

Whether it’s baking tons of cookies, standing in line at Best Buy on Black Friday, or getting spiked hot chocolate at Winterfest, our annual traditions for the holidays are what make this a special time of year. Here at Push10, we have some of our own.

The Official Holiday Card

Each year, it’s the design team’s job to get the holiday card designed, printed and delivered. Since it always seems to get pushed to the last minute, we started sketching and brainstorming way back in the middle of July. Some initial comments: “This year we are going to have the best Holiday Card, let’s get it done by October!” “Let’s make an eCard too!” “Wait, why not a microsite?” “Even better…let’s illustrate the whole team and create personalized Christmas stories that we can animate!” To say the least, we had some big plans. Of course, client work comes first and we ultimately had to table the Holiday Card until it was almost too late. Luckily, a few of us had some free time in the beginning of December to finally get started. We were inspired by some of the fun doodle art trends, and we knew WE HAD to incorporate this picture of Daniel!

Secret Santa

We all choose names before Cyber Monday and the race for the best gift under $20 begins! The secret brainstorming is as much fun as it is painful to keep from blabbing. At our big group holiday dinner party, we go around the table and unveil the products of our scheming. I’m not going to lie, I think I won this year as Noah’s epic “Junior Director of Website Maintenance” custom coffee mug is pretty much the best gift ever.

Holiday Movie Night

The entire team gathers around our office living room dressed in ugly Christmas sweaters to sip festive cocktails and watch a holiday movie. Our Office Manager runs the movie selection process, based on popular vote, but no matter how many votes might get cast for ‘Scrooged‘, it is often overruled by the Head Honcho himself! (Sorry Greg – but we need a break from ‘Home Alone’ this year. )

Although these traditions aren’t steeped in rich history, they have become very important to all of us at Push10. Also, we asked our designers to share how they prepare for the holidays and we got some great creative feedback. Here’s what they had to say:

“I’m not a particularly festive individual. Even so, my maker mentality always leads to at least a few homemade gifts every holiday season. Over the past few years I’ve made limoncello, a wide variety of candies, pickles, coffee liquor, countless prints & posters, and even tried my hand at natural beauty products.”

Here’s wishing each and every one of you a Damn Good holiday!
