Push10 is currently seeking an experienced Technical Director to oversee our agency’s web development team, managing and improving the quality, efficiency, and capabilities our development process.
As our Technical Director, you’ll be responsible for managing the web development department of an award-winning branding agency, which includes a talented team of senior-level web developers as well as a pool of freelance and contractor web developers. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage an internal team of senior-level WordPress developers, as well as a pool of development contractors and freelancers.
- Manage an agency web development process that emphasizes quality of the final product, putting the end-user first.
- Interface directly with clients to understand their technical requirements and set clear expectations.
- Coordinate with our creative and development teams to ensure technical requirements can be executed on and are understood.
- Identify potential issues and proactively propose solutions.
- Ensure the highest level of quality in all development activities.
- Stay updated with the latest web technologies, regulations, and user experience best practices.
- Assist maintenance department with scoping, estimating, and resourcing.
- Perform front-end audits of prospective clients’ websites for project feasibility–making sure potential requirements are able to be done with the company’s resources; Business development consulting with sales team.
- Perform front- and back-end technical audits and discovery of clients’ existing websites in preparation for workshops with the clients to gather requirements about their new websites.
- Perform technical onboarding of clients via technical intake questionnaires that may be customized per client in response to the output of other onboarding items (audits, discoveries in sales process).
- Expert knowledge of WordPress and a general understanding of other platforms to perform audits on non-WordPress sites.
- Facilitate technical workshops with clients to gather requirements for websites that are entering the design phase. Discovery, average of 1-4 per month.
- Management of an internal team of senior-level developers, including administrative tasks such as performance reviews and semimonthly one-on-one meetings, and maintain personal and team goals for each developer.
- Represent the developers within the agency management team.
- Participate in and contribute to management-level process and operations improvement meetings and monthly management meetings.
- Advise creative and strategy teams on best practices from web UX and technical points of view.
- Speak for the development team in staff meetings.
- Basic auditing of Google Analytics, primarily to determine rough visitor estimates for hosting recommendations, and obtaining Google Analytics installation codes.
- Consult on technical questions for web projects that are in sales and discovery phases, including client-facing participation in sales and discovery meetings.
- Participate in post-project retrospectives, using notes from the developer and Dev Production Manager to adjust agency’s process based on successes/failures.
- Ability to effectively translate technical concepts between technical and non-technical stakeholders, primarily in sales and discovery phases.
- Facilitate town halls between Development and Creative teams.
- Represent the development team in Wireframe reviews.
- Perform “Final Sparkle QA” of sites immediately prior to launch, after most QA has been completed by our production team.
- General knowledge of the technical stack required to host a WordPress site. We use various hosting companies, primarily Pantheon and WPEngine. Outliers with at least one active site also include Kinsta and Dreamhost.
- Recruit partners (onshore & off) and freelancers, vendor vetting and selection.
- Lead weekly standup w Production Devs – status update of what is going on and what struggling with.
- Facilitate weekly syncs between internal development and project management teams.
- Facilitate weekly resourcing meetings with project managers to plan upcoming week’s workload on the development team.
- Represent dev team in monthly Process & Operations meeting.
- Assist sales team to answer technical questions and provide accurate scoping and pricing.
Qualifications & Job Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Lead Developer, Development Manager, Director of Technology, or similar role in an agency environment.
- Strong expertise in web technologies, CMS platforms (WordPress), API research and integrations, hosting, DNS, migrations, and typical website maintenance activities.
- Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional communication and client service skills.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work under pressure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
- Have an eye for good design and be able to work with designers to guide clients towards ideal creative solutions.
- Have a good knowledge of the latest trends in the tech industry, including regulations (i.e. WCAG).
- Work well within a remote team environment.
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic SEO principles.
- Able to multi-task, prioritize activities, and do great work on tight deadlines.
- Able to track budgets, timelines, and deadlines.
- Keep an open mind when listening to feedback.
- Be completely at home on a Mac and proficient with a variety of tools and apps (Slack, Google, Asana, Team Gantt, ChatGPT, etc.).

Important Application Details:
Push10 is based in Philadelphia but as a remote company, we are accepting applicants nationwide. As our team works from home offices, relocation is not necessary. Must be a US Citizen based in the United States. This is a full-time management position. Lastly, the chosen candidate will need to pass a basic skills test to prove competency.
This position includes supervisory responsibilities.
