What’s Your Type?
I’ve been thinking a lot about typography lately. That probably doesn’t surprise anyone who knows me well. But while I’ve been drooling over fancy ligatures and stylized ampersands since design school, it’s the history of fonts that has recently captivated my attention.

Philadelphia: Techadelphia?
We may be biased, but it’s a great time to be a creative, techy type in Philly. Especially a small and hungry one, as Philly Mag dishes about the growing popularity of IndyHall.

The business of being an entrepreneur – marketing your brand
One of the most common things we hear from small business owners is how overwhelmed they feel by the marketing process. Selling your business requires an incredible amount of effort, and can be quite a challenge for those entrepreneurs who would prefer to concentrate on creating and perfecting their craft rather than selling it.

Navigating your first ad-shop internship
Navigating the working world is awesome and exciting, but can be a little daunting if it’s also your first time joining a “professional” environment. Fortunately, many of the skills that helped you succeed in your retail or food service job (you’ve had at least one of those, right?) will be applicable here too.

Touchdown: Under Armour & Maryland Terrapins
Aside from new coaches, freshmen classes and off-field scandals, what was the next biggest topic when college football kicked off 2-ish weeks ago?

Social Media: the power struggle between brand and consumer
Our industry will never be without its controversies, in fact some agencies and clients thrive on it. Any press is good press, and all. And consumers have always had an opportunity to let agencies and brands know when they have overstepped the line. “Math class is tough” Barbie, anyone?

Great packaging is like a fantastic haircut
The power of great packaging cannot be underestimated – many business operators (wrongly) believe the hard part is finished once the consumer walks into their shop. Packaging offers an additional touchpoint to turn a happy customer into a loyal one.

Would you “untag” your website’s photos?
Last month on The Creative Attic we discussed the importance of a user-friendly, engaging website experience. In the post we covered layout, look and feel. This month we’ll tackle part two of giving off the right impression and keeping your visitor reading and clicking through your site: imagery and photography.
We’ll set the stage with a comparison many people can relate to: Facebook.

Is your website turning off customers?
Whether for impromptu guests or a party planned months beforehand, you’d probably spend some amount of time making sure your home was neat and presentable. Are you doing the same with your company’s website?

1 Tweet away from (in)famous
Two weeks ago, airline passenger Stephanie Gordon woke up just in time to snap a photo of the Space Shuttle Endeavor as it burst through the clouds. @Stefmara shared her photos via Twitter upon landing, and was being contacted my mainstream and digital media outlets by the end of the day. This isn’t the first [...]

Design Globally, Create Locally
When you make the decision to start your own business, your first jobs will be secured through relationship and reputation. Most likely these business deals will be through local contacts. And while any creative dreams of landing that global account, there’s something awesome about creating for the community. Creating when you can see the use [...]

Why the logo farm is a No Go.
Sure, we’ve all heard the Nike logo story: One of the world’s most recognized logos, created and turned over for a mere $35 dollars. With that thought in mind, many a business owner/idealist has approached somebody just starting out in the business, or Googled “cheap logo” hoping to get in return the Next Big Branding [...]

The right URL may be expensive, but the wrong URL may cost you customers
Your dream client comes to you with an amazing product that practically sells itself. The logo is great, the name is clever without being too cutesy and the marketing materials are written and ready to go. Don’t let all your hard work and great creativity get watered down by a second-rate URL. Let’s face it, [...]

Logo Madness
While watching some NCAA basketball games we started thinking about the branding challenges faced by athletics organizations. Updating a logo is a great way to shoot a bolt of electricity back into a team’s fanbase or complement some other important change within the organization. The San Diego Padres completely overhauled their logo in 2004, a [...]

Signals
With smartphones an almost permanent appendage for many of us, how do you “turn off”? A few of us here at Push 10 recently took well-deserved vacations to far-off locations, and while we cherished the time with loved ones and in new settings, we absolutely struggled with staying “disconnected” while the world continued to move [...]

Stealing intellectual property: why it’s just not smart
There’s no doubt that the Internet is a terrific complement to any creative professional’s career. We can build a website or join any number of forums or social media sites to share our work with peers and new audiences. We can sell our work with just a couple clicks – an incredible convenience over the [...]

Holiday $hopping $avings
“What do you mean you still haven’t finished your holiday shopping?” That’s not us asking, that’s your smug friend, who started shopping for Christmas last December 26th. We get it, there are more important things that get in the way of snagging every doorbuster sale and every free shipping code. Earlier this month, we gave [...]
